Ham’s sin has always perplexed me, until I made a few connections.
In Leviticus, it says, “You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother. That is your father’s nakedness,” which is a reference to intimate relations.
It seems Ham committed an act of incest with his mother while Noah was drunk. This would explain why Noah cursed Canaan, the offspring of that union, rather than Ham directly.
The story seems to unfold over a short time in the Bible. However, it’s possible that a significant amount of time passed between Ham’s sin and Noah’s curse on Canaan. The Bible often jumps ahead in time during narratives, leaving room for such a gap in this story.
